Albogasio inferiore

Consisting of two distinct nuclei: an upper and a lower one, Albogasio is a very particular settlement. The lower part on the lake, developped owing to the fishing activity and water-way transport which was the fastest means of comunication with the rest of the world owing to the absence of roads. During the second decade of last cemtury the lake-side villages were connected by a road with Porlezza, and in the thierties with Lugano.
Lower Albogasio is linked to the more ancient upper part by a splendid mule-track along which are situated  to monumental palaces (16th and 17th century), ”Palazzo delle Colonne ” and ”Palazzo Affaitati” now ”Villa Salve”. One approaches the latter by crossing a picturesque little square. This architectural ensemle offers, especially from the lake, an unusual view, enriched  by the scenographic position of the parish church of Our Lady of the Annunciation .
