The church of St. Bernardine

 Chiesa di San Bernardo

 Our Lady of the Milk

High Altar

Saints:

St. Miro
St. Bernardine
St. Lucius

The church of St. Bernardine is the only one in Valsolda with three aisles. Originally it was dedicated to St. John the Baptist and St. Stephen (represented on the facade on either side of the portal). It was rededicated to St.Bernardine of Siena on the occasion of his canonisation, which took place in 1450. A few years earlier the Saint has preached in Como and Lugano. The most ancient part of the church is the left aisle, on the north wall of which is a fresco dated 1516, divided into three parts, above which is a large lunette. Starting from the left we see:
1    Our Lady of the Milk (Mary nursing the child), a rare subject later abandoned: on her left St. Anthony the Abbot, ”shingles” (herpes zoster) healer .
2    Our Lady with Child , enthroned and crowned, with St. Catherine and St. Bernardine.
2    Christ received by the Father, and, next to it, Our Lady with Child
In the lunette, Our Lady of the Assumption with two local Saints: St.Miro, who had himself transported on his own cloak by the waters of the Lake Como as far as Sorico: and St.Lucius , the Saint of Val Cavargna, a valley close to Val Rezzo, protector of cheese makers.
On the altar-piece of the high altar one notices, in the lower part, three mitres which symbolize the three times St. Bernardine refused the espicopal chair.
Even in the case of Dasio, the graveyard was transferred outside  the built-up area, along the road that leads to the chapel of St. Rock . From there we are able to reach by mule-track the alpine pastures and, at a lower level, the hamlet of Castello .
