It is the furthermost western limit of Valsolda, bordering on Canton Ticino (CH). The Customs were established there in the first half of the 19th century by the austrian government, it is believed not only for commercial motives, but also political, so as to dispose of an extra base for espionage and control over the movements of people.
From the lake side the hamlet, small but densely built, rises up the deep slope to the main road. Coming from Albogasio along the mule-track that runs between the main road and the lake, bordering villas, gardens and the graveyard, one reaches Villa Fogazzaro which gives onto a delightful little square which is also the church square.
